FAILED – Proposal 19 – Holiday Giveaway (LINKSGIVING) Marketing Campaign

Title:

DRAFT – Proposal – Holiday Giveaway (LINKSGIVING) Marketing Campaign

Abstract/Executive Summary :

This proposal is to requisition 10.1 YFL from the treasury towards marketing the LINKSWAP launch with holiday-themed content and an NFT giveaway during launch week.

Motivation :

LINKSWAP’s launch will be a huge milestone for YFL, which coincides with one of the biggest holidays in the USA, Thanksgiving. In the spirit of these two events, YFL will randomly give away a total of 7 YFL-backed NFTs to encourage network participation during LINKSWAP’s launch.

Additionally, as a LINK-native project, it only makes sense to make this an bigger event by having one of the first giveaways utilizing Chainlink’s VRF function. This will accomplish a few goals:

  • Ensure that the giveaway is verifiably random and fair (similar theme to RugLock)
  • Receive attention from the Chainlink team as a LINK-tech leader
  • Boost awareness among the LINK community as the leading LINK-driven project
  • Drive real user traffic on the LINKSWAP platform

The aim is that this initiative coupled with the current launch incentives will lead to a massively successful launch of LINKSWAP.

Specifications:

Giveaway Overview

  1. Contestants need to connect their wallet with LINKSWAP and use the platform in one of these two ways:
  • Submit a transaction
  • Provide Liquidity in one of the launch pools
  1. Team 02 (or 3rd party Dev if needed) will build a Smart Contract that pulls all unique addresses from LINKSWAP and assigns them a lottery number.
  2. At the end of “LINKSGIVING” (11/30/2020), the SmartContract would pick numbers using the VRF and randomly award them one of 7 YFL-backed LINKSGIVING NFTs.

This achieves the goal of facilitating usage of LINKSWAP without simply giving out tokens to all users.

More details about the Chainlink Lottery VRF can be read here: https://blog.chain.link/how-to-build-a-blockchain-lottery-2/
PoolTogether V3 Documentation: https://docs.pooltogether.com/

Marketing/Content

The marketing content will consist of:

  • Social Posts with LINKSGIVING Memes
  • Medium article announcing and outlining giveaway
  • Header image on LINKSWAP
  • PR Outreach showcasing LINKSWAP as an early adopter of Chainlink VRF

Costs

Request for a total of 5.5 YFL for the LINKSWAP marketing treasury and the remaining 5.1 YFL from the treasury to be disbursed within 3 days of passage of this proposal to address, which will be under this author’s (@JohnLambo’s) control. The funds will be allocated as follows:

  • 7 YFL for giveaway of YFL-backed NFTs (one per address/randomly-selected winner)
  • 1 YFL to @JohnLambo as compensation for creating the campaign, content and coordinating/executing
  • 1 YFL distributed to Team 02 or Dev for creating Chainlink VRF giveaway
  • 1 YFL for NFT creation (artist TBD)
  • 0.1 YFL for Gas fees

Content will be submitted for review and approval to the marketing team before funds are released. Spending of any funds from this address will be communicated beforehand to the YFL community on Discord and will be subject to scrutiny. The funds will be available to spend for a period of two weeks after passage of this proposal, after which the remaining amount will be returned to the treasury.

Final Notes:

The main hurdle to overcome would be timing. It will need to be determined amongst the team if it is feasible to execute the above plan (primarily the Smart Contract/VRF Lottery portion) by the LINKSWAP launch.

If it is determined that the above is not possible, @JohnLambo will

  • Revise this proposal attempting to still have a launch/holiday marketing campaign, with reduced scope and costs.
  • Re-purpose the original proposal, content and resubmit another future proposal to fit the upcoming holiday season (already dubbed LINKSMAS).

Greetings! An excellent proposal! Well written, thoroughly planned and easy to digest. …only, would it be too much to add another tier of winners, maybe give 1 LINK to 105 second class runner ups?
Edit: actually that’d be wasteful cuz of gas fees… so maybe instead raise the number 15 to 30?

Very cool idea @John Lambo!! A well thought out campaign, and great application of Chainlink’s VRF system to run the lottery. This way it’s not just a cheap giveaway on Twitter, but really leverages the technology while driving user traffic to LINKSWAP, and we attract interest from the Chainlink team and community, as you say in the proposal.

As you also said, I see timing being an issue. For the current marketing campaigns we’ve been in close contact with Team 02, and they are 100% focused on LINKSWAP launch. So in the interest of time and speed I think the LINKSGIVING campaign must be developed as independently as possible from Team 02’s active input or contribution to smart contract development for this campaign.

So I guess my main questions are:

  • Can we execute this independently and quickly, while still integrating it with LINKSWAP and using Chainlink VRF? What would we need specifically?

  • Can we bring on a 3rd party dev who is vetted and vouched for, and can develop this SC within the very short time span we have?

Lastly, there is still 5.5 YFL available to spend on campaigns in the LINKSWAP marketing fund. I propose that amount from that fund be included in your proposal. Only after agreement of the community here of course.

That way we have about half of the funds for the LINKGIVING campaign at our disposal now to start work right away, and the rest of the funds will then be disbursed after passage of your proposal. This would also mean an efficient spending of the funds requisitioned from the treasury to LINKSWAP marketing.

Hi everyone,

For some reason, I can’t edit the original post. Below is a large update incorporating the new aspects of changing the prize to YFL-backed NFTs and how participants can enter. There are still some rough estimations on costs/timing but those will need to be figured out as we go. Please let me know if there’s any remaining feedback before editing the main post and putting on chain as an accelerated vote.

DRAFT – Proposal – Giveaway (LINKSGIVING) LINKSWAP Launch Campaign

Abstract/Executive Summary :

This proposal is to requisition 12 YFL from the treasury towards marketing the LINKSWAP launch with holiday-themed content and a giveaway during launch week.

Motivation :

LINKSWAP’s launch will be a huge milestone for YFL, which coincides with one of the biggest holidays in the USA, Thanksgiving. In the spirit of these two events, YFL will give away at random a total of 7 YFL-backed NFTs to boost LINKSWAP participation during launch week.

Additionally, as a LINK-native project, it only makes sense to make this an even more historical event by having one of the first giveaways utilizing the Chainlink VRF function. This will accomplish a few goals:

  • Ensure that the giveaway is provably random and fair (similar theme to RugLock)

  • Boost awareness among the LINK community as a leading LINK-driven project

  • Receive attention from the Chainlink team as a serious LINK-dedicated platform

  • Drive real user traffic on the LINKSWAP platform

The aim is that this initiative coupled with the current launch incentives will lead to a massively successful launch of LINKSWAP.

Specification s:

Giveaway Overview

The giveaway will be structured like PoolTogether v3, which in this case a LINKSWAP user deposits/stakes their LP token to be entered into the prize pool, then the Chainlink VRF randomly determines and awards a winner an NFT. Further details are below:

  • Eligibility Period

    • The “LINKSGIVING” eligibility period begins at 12am UTC on 11/30/2020. This date was chosen because:

      • The LINKSWAP launch on 11/25 should bring in much activity on its own. The purpose here is to sustain and create new users

      • Thanksgiving itself may see low traffic due to the holiday, which 11/30 (“Cyber Monday”) will likely be generating a greater amount of internet activity in itself

      • It will give the team the most amount of time to prepare all assets

  • Entry Requirements

    • Users can enter the giveaway by having their LP tokens staked in any of the LINKSWAP launch pools during the LINKSGIVING eligibility period.
  • Random Winner Selection

    • The winners will be randomly selected via Chainlink VRF from the LP token pools at the conclusion of the eligibility period at 12am UTC on 12/1/2020.
  • NFT Award Distribution (rough outline)

    • Prize Pool initiated with the required contract connections

    • Random numbers are assigned to entrants

    • Chainlink VRF gets a random number to select a user

    • YFL-backed NFT is minted using existing contract

    • NFT is sent to winner’s address

  • This process would be repeated 7 times for each NFT.
